Rumyan Zanev was born in the town of Gabrovo. In 1998 he graduated from Southwestern University, Blagoevgrad, majoring in Choreographic Pedagogy and in the same year was appointed Chief Artistic Director of the Kapanski Ensemble. He has won many awards, including the Nikola Ikonomov Awards of the Razgrad Municipal Council for overall contribution in the field of culture and the most prestigious award "Crystal Lyre" of the Union of Bulgarian music and dance figures, for overall creativity and for indisputable achievements in Bulgarian choreography.
He directs the dance group "Pendari" in Botev Academy by staging the dances "Bulgarian Bouquet", "Buenki", the chamber dance "Love of Cotter", "Momino Horo", "Spring Songs and Dances", "Arapoyna" and "Bulgarian Wedding". He has made a significant contribution to the preservation of local traditions and the promotion of folklore wealth among the Bulgarian community in North America.
