Svetla Tyson was born in 1978 in Varna. She graduated from the Konstantin Preslavski Humanitarian High School with an extended study of Bulgarian language and literature and English. She also earned a bachelor's degree at the Varna Free University with a degree in Journalism and Public Relations. In addition to Bulgarian and English, she is fluent in Russian, German, and Italian. She has worked in the field of tourism for more than 20 years in three different countries - Bulgaria, Turkey, and Cyprus.
She arrived in the United States in 2012. Svetla has lived in New York and since 2016 settled in Washington DC. She has worked as an administrative assistant in private companies and deputy director at the YMCA Metropolitan DC. It is there where she enriches her professional experience by working with children and young people up to 18 years of age.
Ms. Tyson enjoys reading books, traveling, playing sports, and enjoys theater and film. As a child, she participated for almost 12 years in the Theater Ensemble "The Golden Key" of the late Katya Papazova in Varna.
She is extremely happy to have the opportunity to be part of the team of the Bulgarian Academy "Hristo Botev" in Washington DC and to pass on her love for the Bulgarian language, literature, and culture.
